The Teacher

Going along with your  teacher preferences ( as long as they are not morally wrong) need not be that bad or difficult, for as long as you study your lessons and observe the basic rules. Be nice to a hard of hearing teacher, for example, in asking her to repeat certain points in her lecture or asking her any question. Check your grammar, spelling, dates, appropriateness of your school materials, punctuality, decorum, and other details about which she is meticulous. If she is bookish, sharpen your memory so you can store more facts into it and win her favor. You may derail the story-teller teacher gently from her tales by means of polite reminders. Give the tired teacher a few minutes to cool her heels and the business minded teacher, her computations for the day. You are not responsible for their distinct brands of personality. You are simply blending with them for the purpose of getting good grades, not trying to change them or opposing their ways. But always remain beyond reproach to them.

Greet the fashionable teacher, the strict teacher and the story teller as often and the same way you greet the tired teacher, the very old teacher and th businesswoman-teacher. In other words, have no definite inclination as to whom to obey, greet or help. Do what you have to do each day in class, regardless of how your teacher perceives people and events around her. this does not mean bootlicking or patronizing. It means flexibility and the effective students is flexible, his mind ever attuned to that one objective of turning into an effective student.

School demonstrations

Machines, equipment, facilities and tools require step-by-step procedures to operate. Cooking menus, sewing clothes, assembling or dismantling a structure, constructing or repair, and the completion of a task involve detailed steps that must be displayed in their proper order. Your next lesson may be one of these things and your teacher assigns you to show the class how one such equipment, tool or item is operated or assembled. Or how a certain task or activity is performed. Your updated encyclopedia will be of definite help. Your teacher will tell you how to secure the material if it is not a common house item. You have to give a little background of the item before proceeding to its contents and procedure of operation. If what you are assigned or volunteered to demonstrate is something new to everyone, you may have to go to the producer or distributor who will be glad to give you all the information materials you need to promote their product, including a sample itself.

A memorable skit

You need more than a well costumed and well rehearsed cast to perform excellently. Your props must be as appropriate and professionally done too. Musical background and special effects can be applied by CD or tape and played at a low sound level and used proficiently throughout the drama. The play itself must also be a famous or important one.

Prompters should be alert from the background in reminding the cast about forgotten lines. You or your floor director should have emphasized to the cast to speak aloud, so that the audience can follow the narrative. And to internalize their roles to make them act naturally, not just recite lines. Manipulate the lighting effects to heighten the audience’s experience of the drama. You may want to videotape record the entire presentation as a souvenir, too.

At the end of the presentation, re-introduce the participants by calling them out to face the audience again, while still in their costumes. After all participants have been presented, your teacher may take over and introduce the minds and hands behind the presentation. She will call the director, scriptwriter, artist, prompters, floor and stage director, production managers, and runners or errands. Give each one a hand.

Refreshments and socials usually follow a presentation at a predesignated social area in school. Assign one or few students to remain in the classrooms to neat up the place. Those wearing costumes should now change to their street clothes or uniforms.

Never forget congratulating and thanking each students who contributed any part in the project.
